ABOUT LORETTA MARKELL

Painting is the perfect medium for me because I love change and variety. There are many ways to paint a picture. I am still learning new ways to paint. Looking at the work of other artists has taught me a lot. To see what has been done before me but even more fascinating is to see what others are doing today. If you ask me who my favorite artist is I would have to say I have many favorites. I love to take pictures with my little digital camera. I often use the photos I take as reference material for a painting. With painting one can express things not possible with a photograph. Some of the ordinary scenes taken with the camera become imaginary places in a painting. The way I paint the picture is determinded by the imagination and mood of the moment.
